If you’re cringing at the thought of writing marketing emails, these tips will put your emails leaps and bounds above the rest.
Speak to the reader
The most popular word in the English language? “Me.” So if you really want to impress your readers, make it all about them. “Hey Jennifer, you need to see this!” If you run a salon, for example, reach out to your customers with a lot of “you” in the message about your styling services. “Hey Jennifer! You’re ready for your great new summer look. Be sure to ask about the the right products to make styling a breeze.”
Go easy on the words
Instead of… “We have unique and completely exclusive scarves we are planning to release in the next week or two. Be on the lookout for photos and more details about these simply amazing scarves.” …why not this? “You’re going to love our new scarves! You won’t find them anywhere else. Stay tuned for photos.” Shorter and more customer-focused, right?
Sound human
How would you tell a friend about the new scarves that just arrived? Read your email out loud, making sure it sounds warm, personal and friendly. Use contractions like “you’re” and “you’ll.” This will help your copy sound more conversational.
